Work was performed on an active University site for this state-of-the-art Library for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The 120,000 s.f. Library is three-levels of structural steel building over a full basement clad in GFRC and glass. The new library will incorporate environmentally sensitive design elements and materials, in accordance with the LMU philosophy of good environmental stewardship.  In addition, to improve interior light and solar heat gain, the design includes vertically mounted, louvers.  These take maximum advantage of natural light, while also providing a way to control solar heat gain.

The first floor will feature an Information Commons and Circulation Desk, Reference Services and Collection, a media lounge and a cafe with 40 interior seats and 40 exterior seats, two electronic classrooms, and casual and table type seating with computers for 160 users. The library’s second floor will have Media Services and Reserves, Technical Services, the main collection stacks of approximately 174,000 volumes, and casual table-type seating with computers for 200 users. The third floor will feature Special Collections and Archives, the Library Administration and Faculty Center, the main collection stacks of approximately 87,000 volumes and casual and table-type seating with computers for 150 users.

This project achieved LEED® Gold NC through the U.S. Green Building Council.
