Wheatley Middle School first opened in time for the 1932-33 school year and, by the turn of the century, was in need of major renovations. Satterfield & Pontikes was tasked to both renovate
and expand the existing campus in a $13.5-million project.
• Project included renovating 55,000 SF of existing space and constructing a 75,000 SF addition
• Work included asbestos abatement and demolition of existing structures, including buildings on site before the original construction of the middle school
• Creative design, engineering and construction work allowed for the project to be successfully adapted as unforeseen issues were discovered
• Substantial planning went into properly sequencing phases of renovation and new construction
