The Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment awarded defense contractor ECC (Environmental Chemical Corp.) a design-build contract for the Fort Sam Houston Medical Education Training Campus (METC) Medical Instructional Facilities (MIF) 3 and 4. S&P served as
general contractor to ECC for this project. The buildings are designed and constructed to meet LEED Gold requirements. MIF 3 (175,000 SF) and MIF 4 (245,000 SF) represent the largest facilities within the planned medical training campus.

S&P used Building Information Modeling (BIM) to coordinate MEP components for above-ceiling conflict detection and to create schedule simulation that was used for phasing coordination.
• One of the U.S. Army’s oldest active installations, Fort Sam Houston has been transformed into the flagship home of U.S. military medical training programs, eventually hosting 45,000 medical students
• In this facility, the U.S. military will, for the fi rst time, cross-train all branches of service in outpatient, inpatient and contingency military medicine
• MIF 3 is a four-story medical training facility with six operating theaters, mock patient rooms and associated laboratories for Surgical Otolaryngology, Urology, Electroneuro Diagnostic, Medical Laboratory, Histopathology and Cytotechnology Training
• MIF 4 is a four-story medical training facility that provides Medical Technician, Hospital Corpsman, Aerospace Medical Service, Integrated Emergency Medical Technician and Preventative Medicine Training. MIF 4 also serves as the information technology central hub for the entire campus and the Central Command.
