The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) selected Satterfield & Pontikes Construction as the general contractor for the new LEED Office Facility for Transition (LOFT) at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) complex. The project was JSC’s first major construction project in more than 17 years and provides NASA with needed flexibility in facilities. • The LOFT houses 520 NASA employees, including those displaced by renovation projects elsewhere at JSC • The new building is the first NASA building to achieve Platinum status • The LOFT features a demountable interior partition system for easily moving walls and reconfiguring office space • Extensive use of recycled and local/regional building materials far exceeded LEED requirements • Low E-coated windows provide ultimate energy efficiency • Concrete, reinforcing steel and aluminum contain high recycled content • LEED features also include innovative shade structures, solar water heating and water-efficient plumbing fixtures • More than 95 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfills
