The challenge: create a modern research building that blends with surrounding gothic architecture. The success: Simon Hall, the center of science research at Indiana University. F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company served as general contractor, creating facilities to study nucleotides in chromosomes (Genomics), the analysis of proteins (Proteomics), biochemistry, and biophysics. Simon Hall is clad in smooth, buff cut limestone pieces including window heads, sills and jambs, quoins, and accent stones. Wilhelm Construction’s Simon Hall exterior received Masonry Construction magazine’s Best Institutional Project.
